Cathedral-of-Siena complex: new organization to promote high quality and tourists stay

Cathedral-of-Siena complex: new organization to promote high quality and tourists stay
Arranging the visits homogenously- not only to the cathedral- and offering tourists a more complete and aware chance to visit the Acropolis and stay more in Siena.
These are the reasons why the “opera della Metropolitana del Duomo” will offer some new opportunities, starting from the 1st of March 2018. The historical complex, indeed, has recently registered an increase in the number of visitors, attracted not only by the cathedral and the “libreria Piccolomini” but also by the baptistery, the crypt, the “museo dell’opera” and the “museo diocesano”.
In fact, thanks to Opa Si Pass- which allow people to enter the places just mentioned- any visitor can understand the importance of every single piece of art and monument as fundamental parts of a great historical complex; that’s why the “opera della metropolitana” decided to continue on the same path by simplifying the choice of the art itineraries and by providing more effective ways of communication with tourists and visitors so to allow them to choose consciously and to visit Siena easily.
Thus, starting from the 1st of March it will be possible to choose among three kinds of visits: the Cathedral and the “Libreria Piccolomini”; the Opa Si Pass itinerary, including “Sotto il Duomo” (Under the cathedral) – a 3D video mapping exhibit; finally “la Porta del cielo” and the visit to the cathedral roofs which, starting from this year, includes the Opa Si Pass offer.
This one more chance aims to provide a better service and to enhance the reception of visitors besides producing a more direct communication among all the complex operators.
This new organisation facilitates the sorting of the visits-that were especially concentred on the Cathedral- and guarantees a higher quality besides a better consciousness of the cathedral-complex spiritual and cultural heritage.
The “Opera della Metropolitana” has recently undertaken restoration works of the main places of the complex: the “Libreria Piccolomini”, the Sacristy of the cathedral and the former oratory of San Giovannino.
Before describing the new itinerary organization- starting from the 1st of March- we would like to inform all the citizens born and/or resident in Siena that they have free access not only to the Cathedral of S. Maria Assunta but also to the Opa Si Pass itinerary.

The free entrance to the Cathedral goes on during the winter months – from the 1st of November till the 24th of December and from the 7th of January till the 28th of February (the Libreria Piccolomini costs just 2 euros). The Opa Si Pass costs 8 euros, in that period.
During the other months of the year, the entrance to the Cathedral and the Libreria will cost 5 euros- 8 euros if you want to visit the uncovered floors. During the high season the Opa Si Pass itinerary will cost 13 euros (or 15 if the floors are uncovered). The price of the itinerary “Porta del Cielo” plus Opa Si pass will be 20 euros so to promote an essential visit from the foundation to the top of the Cathedral. Reductions for children and organized groups are provided during the period when the floors are uncovered.
